SUSTAINABLE NATURAL RUBBER OF INDUSTRIAL PLANTATIONS FARMERS IN MULTY STAKEHOLDER

SNARPI for Sustainable Natural Rubber

Concern for the development of sustainable national natural rubber will get a clear forum through the Sustainable Natural Rubber Platform of Indonesia (SNARPI).

“Natural rubber is an important and strategic commodity for Indonesia. As well as being the second largest agricultural export commodity after palm oil, rubber is a source of livelihood for more than 2.5 million smallholder farming families. It is this community group that manages more than 85% of the sources of natural rubber production in Indonesia.”

Rubber plantations have an important role in environmental preservation. Several research sources show that natural rubber can absorb 35 tons of CO2/ha/year and release 13 tons of O2/ha/year. It also acts as a natural catchment area regulator.

"SNARPI was formed on the basis of awareness to answer these challenges and ensure the sustainability of natural rubber. This needs to involve the participation of all economic actors from the upstream plantation sector to the downstream sector of the rubber goods manufacturing industry in one rhythm," added Musdhalifah. The formation of SNARPI began with a series of meetings since August 2020 by initiators consisting of the Indonesian Rubber Companies Association (GAPKINDO), Rainforest Alliance, SNV and the IDH Foundation, then SNARPI received full support from the Coordinating Minister for the Economy
